Buckman Historic Association

The Buckman Historic Association has been working on a National Register Historic District nomination for the Buckman neighborhood since early 2009. This volunteer-led effort has met regularly to prepare material for the 3 consultants who helped write the nomination. Without this wonderful team of volunteers, we would not be where we are today!

The Buckman Historic Association submitted the nomination to the State Historic Preservation Office for a staff review March 1, 2012 and it has been determined eligible for National Register listing. Submittal to the National Park Service was delayed, due to concerns of property owners within the proposed district with high design review fees. The Portland Historic Districts Coalition (Bosco-Milligan Foundation, AIA/Historic Resources Committee, Irvington, Buckman, Alphabet Districts, and others) have been working with BPS on the Historic Resources Code Improvement Project to make the process for simple projects more streamlined. The nomination was resubmitted to the State Historic Preservation Office November 1, 2012.
