Portland architect and historian William J. Hawkins, III FAIA will sign his most recent book The Legacy of the Olmsted Brothers in Portland from 4:15 – 5:30 pm. The important new work, filled with beautiful photographs and illustrative maps, explores the lasting influence of the nationally-famous landscape designers on the parks and boulevards of the Rose City. Bill is also the author of Classic Houses of Portland, Oregon, 1850-1950, and The Grand Era of Cast-Iron Architecture in Portland, and well-known for his restoration work on many local landmarks (including West’s Block, the home of the Architectural Heritage Center).
Part of the First Friday events for “Perspectives,” an art exhibit presented at the AHC by three Portland artists. Poet David Pickering will read the poems which inspired the exhibit and some of his other work.
