The "Preservation in Action" Award with Case Studies

Recognizing historic preservation that made a difference in the Portland area

To celebrate our 20th anniversary, the Architectural Heritage Center/Bosco-Milligan Foundation inaugurated the Preservation in Action Award. Our goal is to recognize those projects that demonstrate the cultural, historic, and economic value of historic preservation in our communities, and thereby inspire others to do the same.

The award celebrates outstanding historic preservation projects both large and small across all sectors: residential, commercial, government/institution, and community or neighborhood.

Projects that met award criteria reflect one or more of the following:

Had significant impact and served as a catalyst for historic preservation.
Demonstrated extraordinary authenticity or craftsmanship.
Provide an outstanding example of creative problem-solving, adaptive re-use, persistence, or cooperation between parties.
Took place between 1987 and 2007 in the greater Portland area (four counties).
Preserved a home or building at least 50 years old.

Our panel of judges included representatives from the public, private, and commercial sectors, and from the architectural and preservation communities. Award recipients were celebrated at a gala reception at the Governor Hotel prior to our “Riches of at City” Heritage Auction on October 18, 2008.
