"All practical men know that repairs make a greater demand on the skill of the industrial workman." - The Village Carpenter, 1937
Concerned about failing stucco, cracked and missing shingles, and horizontal wood siding that are calling for help? This program is for you! It's time to learn from the real experts about assessing the conditions and needs of your "exterior exposures." Join us on Saturday, September 7th at a private home with siding dilemmas in Portland's Rose City neighborhood. James Hurley, owner of Europlastering and Stucco (a veteran presenter at our earlier interior plaster workshops) will demonstrate why he is famous for his unmatched skill in diagnosing and repair of stucco that is "distressed." Mike Wolfe, of Prodigy Construction, will address the many preservation issues related to repair and replacement of wood shingles and siding.
Portland and the northwest are blessed with many houses and buildings clad in stucco - a form of masonry that has its own particular needs for care, cleaning, and repair. Whether painted or unpainted, cracks and breaks in stucco finishes are a cause for alarm for homeowners. Shingles of varied sizes and design are often used in combination with stucco, as are other types of more typical wood siding. All of these vintage buildings materials are at the mercy of the elements, and especially susceptible to water damage in our rainy climate. You will have ample opportunity to "ask the experts" as James and Mike tackle the challenges we all face with our own "exterior exposures." Pre-registration is required, so sign up now using the registration form.
