The Bosco-Milligan Foundation is pleased to present its Fourth Annual Kitchen Revival program on August 10, 2002. This program will provide historically-appropriate ideas and inspiration for all who have a kitchen renovation "on the front burner" and an up-close look for people who enjoy vintage homes in general. In the grand tradition of this annual event, the first portion will be held at the historic Hollywood Theatre at 4122 NE Sandy Boulevard, Portland, and will feature an accomplished group of speakers on kitchen history and design. Keynote speakers Caprial and John Pence, well-known chefs and restaurateurs, will be discussing kitchen design from the perspective of cooking in the kitchen. (Following the lecture portion of the program, Caprial and John Pence will have their books for sale and will be available to sign them for purchasers.) Designer and Arciform LLC co-owner Anne DeWolf will describe the challenges of creating kitchens for homes built before World War II. Karla Pearlstein will speak from the homeowner's perspective, recounting her experiences with re-creating the historic flavor of the kitchen of her 1894 Queen Anne westside Portland home and working with contractors.
The lecture program will be followed by self-guided tours of eight wonderful kitchens ranging from 1891 and 1894 Victorians, to a 1907 Craftsman, to a 1929 English cottage, all of which are either close to their original character or have been historically renovated.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Attendees must sign up for
the entire program to go on the tours. Transportation
to the tour sites is self-provided. The tour map will be distributed
at the program. The fees are $20.00 for members of the
Bosco-Milligan Foundation, and $25.00 for non-members. Due to tour restrictions, no children under 12, please! Register
now using the registration form in the newsletter.
